Food is a staple in each person’s life. It is a way we learn about cultural values and society. It gives us many different perspectives while simultaneously bringing us all together through shared experiences. Identifying and understanding diverse perspectives adds value to creative works. In this discussion, you’ll select a creative work related to food and share what diverse perspectives are present in the work you chose.

Discussing diverse perspectives of the humanities often means investigating opinions and ideas different from your own. Remember to remain thoughtful and respectful toward your peers and instructor in your initial post as well as in your discussion responses.

Create one initial post and respond to at least two of your classmates.

For your initial post, address the following:

Select a creative work that addresses the topic of food.

You are welcome to select your own creative work that addresses food. The creative work you choose might be a book, a painting, a film, a poem, a play, a song, etc. It can come from any of the three subject areas we are focusing on: the visual arts, the literary arts, or the performing arts.

1. What diverse perspectives does the artist or creator bring to the work?
2. How do these diverse perspectives add value to the work?

For your response posts, address the following:

1. Respond to a peer who chose a creative work from a different subject area than yours. For example, if you chose a literary work, respond to someone who chose a work from the visual or performing arts. How does the perspective of the artist/creator of the work your peer chose differ from the perspective of the artist/creator of the work you chose?
2. Are there any similarities in their approaches?

Remember, your contributions play an important part in building the classroom learning community. This assignment is graded on the quality of your initial post and at least two response posts to your classmates. If you refer to any resources, be sure to include an attribution (or citation) to the resource.
