Assertion Journal 3: Choose Your Assertion
By completing this assignment, you will
Create an assertion journal on a topic of your choice from this course
Defend, qualify or challenge the quote, theme or your own thesis
Throughout this semester, I’ve provided assertions for you to defend, qualify or challenge. Now it’s your turn to look at the themes, topics from this course and create your own assertion to defend, qualify or challenge.
You can either create a thesis of your own, use a quote from your research or readings, or draw on one of the rapid research or other questions we’ve worked on from the course. What has surprised or challenged you? What was interesting? Use this as your starting point to create or find an assertion.
Your assertion journal will

begin with your thesis or a quote (see below for more details)
written using the same format as the previous assertion journals (see exemplar from previous lessons)
research-based, with a minimum of three sources from academic journals and other credible sources.
include in-text citations AND a reference page (must include both or assignment will receive a “0”)
a minimum of 4 paragraphs
the first paragraph will contextualize the quote or thesis by giving background
the remaining paragraphs will defend, challenge, or qualify the quote or thesis using credible sources.
