Advanced Grammar essay

For this paper you will be analyzing an editorial by Patrick Buchanan. Read it at least twice to discern what it is about and what his point are.
2. You are to discern what the merits are of his argument or if it lacks any merit. If you think he makes good points, your analysis will need to explain the strengths of his argument and what makes it a good argument. If you disagree with his argument, you need explain why or how this argument is not a good argument.
3. Your introduction should name the author, the title of the editorial and where and when it was published. You need to explain what the editorial is about and what his overall point is concerning this topic. Your thesis should indicate whether you think he is correct in his assertion or not correct. You will NOT write in first person, as in, I believe he is wrong, or, I feel he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Here is an example of what your thesis could look like:
Although Pat Buchanan correctly labels diversity as a reason for the cause of some of the division in the U.S., he ignores the fact that this is a country that has given hope to the world that we humans are more than the things that divide us.
4. Your body paragraphs should be an exploration of the points that Buchanan makes. You need to explain what his points are and how he uses them to support his thesis. Then you need to explain either how his points are correct, or you need to explain what shortcomings his points have. Don’t forget that you will need to quote him and paraphrase him when discussing his point.
5. Your conclusion should NOT just be a summary of your paper. You need to tell us why this topic is important. Tell us what is at stake.
6. Your paper is due September 24th.
7. It will be graded on how well you analyze, explain your argument, as well as on your grammar and punctuation.
8. Your paper should be three to four pages long.
