A critical aspect of maintaining a comprehensive school counseling program is to stay current with decisions that might influence the roles and responsibilities of the profession. To remain current in school counseling practice, it is important to review legislative and legal decisions that influence the profession and school-based programs.

For this assignment, research legislation and government policy directly related to legal decisions that address ethical standards within the school counseling profession in the last 10 years.

In 500-750 words, summarize your findings in an essay:

• Identify and describe legal considerations in the PK-12 setting.
• Identify and describe ethical considerations in the PK-12 setting.
• Compare and contrast legal and ethical considerations in the PK-12 setting. Explain how they are similar and include some of the distinctions.
• Explain how the development of the ASCA National Model was influenced by legal and ethical considerations specific to school counseling.
• Describe how ASCA Ethical Standards for School Counselors supports ethical decision making. (Refer to “Solutions to Ethical Problems in Schools” located in the topic resources.)
• Read the “Statement on the Integration of Faith and Work.” Explain how a school counselor with the Christian worldview or another faith-based worldview might approach ethical decision-making. Use the Ethical Positions Statement, and other GCU faith-based resources or Bible passages to support your answer.
