In your Week 2 Justifying Community Needs assignment, you determined your community’s greatest needs. This week’s assignment will build on that effort by defining the population currently most affected by this community shortcoming and who will likely benefit when the disparity is resolved. The goal is that with these two key areas known, you can begin creating your action plans for the two greatest needs of your community which are due in Week 4. For example, if you determine that safe public recreational parks are your community’s greatest shortcoming, the population most impacted would be children/youth (ages under 18). Once determined, you would then provide the demographic information on the number of people in your community within that age group. You would also want to highlight if there are socioeconomic status (SES) factors, environmental factors, and so forth that you must consider with this population and the need. “Within Hopkins Park, IL, SES would be a significant factor in that more than 20% of the population is below the poverty line. Additionally, from an environmental standpoint, the community lacks sidewalks.
