Dashboard and Strategy Maps Introduction

For Assessment 2, you will develop an Excel dashboard with graphs and a strategy map for four (4) DRGs – heart failure, pneumonia, heart attack (MI), and stroke readmissions. 

Preparing for the Assignment 

• Review Olson, J. R., McLaughlin, D. B., & Sharma, L. (2022). Healthcare operations management. – Chapters 1-8.
• Begin the assignment in Sentinel Health DataLab by clicking “Enter Sentinel World” at the beginning of the course page.
• Review the following files
  • Project RED Strategy Map
  • Medicare Synth Data with Readmissions Indicated

Instructions

Step 1: 

Access the Sentinel Health DataLab, then:

1. Select “Quality”.
2. Select “Column Visibility”.
3. Select Region, State, Year, and % Heart Failure, Pneumonia, Heart Attack, and Stroke Readmissions.
4. Click outside the boxes to close the screen.
5. Select Excel to obtain the data report.
6. Click in the Select States section and select one state of your choice from the dropdown list.
7. Click Filter.
8. The Sentinel Health Data Lab screen’s data report will change to indicate only the state you have chosen.
9. Select Excel and save the Excel file to complete step 2.

Step 2: 

1. Review the saved excel file for the state you have chosen.  There are several columns present, scroll right until you find columns for % Heart Failure, Pneumonia, Heart Attack, and Stroke Readmissions.
2. Create an excel dashboard that displays the readmissions for the selected DRG codes.a. Create at least 3 types of graphs of the readmission data (i.e. pie graph, line graph, bar graph, etc.) in your dashboard.b. All four (4) DRGs are to be included in the graphical representations.
3. Construct a strategy map (refer to the Project RED Strategy Map file example) to reduce the readmission rates for each of the selected DRG codes.

Step 3: 

1. Complete a 1-2 page executive summary explaining your dashboard information and strategy map. Your summary should contain “hypothetical” examples and should be written as if you are conveying your findings to C-suite (CEO, CFO, COO, etc.) executives.
2. Submit the Excel dashboard as Appendix A, and the strategy maps as Appendix B.

Submission Criteria for Assignment 2

1. All submissions should have a title page and reference page (not included in page count).
2. Narrative is submitted in a Word document which may include tables, graphs, other resources as needed.
3. Include an introductory and summary paragraph/statement.
4. The page count should be 1-2 pages (not including the dashboard and strategy maps).
5. Submit the Excel dashboard as Appendix A, and the strategy maps as Appendix B.
6. Utilize a minimum of three (3) scholarly resources in addition to your required textbook and resources.
7. Adhere to grammar, spelling, and punctuation criteria.
8. Adhere to APA compliance guidelines.
