Developing goals and objectives

The Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation reports that obesity is a major problem in the United States (https://www.kff.org/state-health-facts/). Reducing the present rate of obesity in the United States is the current target. SMART goals: The goal is to lower the percentage of adults who have a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher. Objective: In the next five years, we want to cut the rate of obesity from 42 percent to 35 percent. Obtainable if we put in place initiatives supported by scientific evidence and provide opportunities for people to eat well and exercise. Obesity is a substantial risk factor for numerous chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and some types of cancer. Definable in time; we’ll get there in five years or less. Program: a community-based initiative to expand people’s availability of nutritious meals and encourage regular physical activity. Modeling logic: Resources include both monetary investment in a program’s rollout and the time and energy of dedicated staff members. Community outreach and education, fostering the growth of community gardens and farmers markets, collaborating with local groups to encourage exercise, and stocking community events with nutritious food alternatives are just some of the things that may be done.
