Epidemiology

The Textbook is : Friis, Robert H. and Sellers, Thomas, Epidemiology for Public Health Practice, 6th Ed., (Burlington, MA: Jones & Bartlett Learning, 2021). ISBN-13: 9781284175431
Select a current, immediate and/or emerging public health issue that may or may not be covered in the text book. Email the instructor explaining your proposed project based upon the below criteria and get approval for the topic you selected before starting it. The purpose of this project is to: 1) learn how epidemiology can be used to examine a public health issue; 2) gather evidencebased information and data on this public health issue; 3) develop, design and complete a poster presentation on the selected public health issue (part I) and design a research study examining this public health issue (part II). This project has two parts. Both parts are outlined below:

Part I: Poster Presentation (100 points)
This part requires you to develop a poster presentation using either Microsoft PowerPoint or software designed for poster presentation development. In this poster, you will convey information on your chosen current, immediate, and/or emerging public health issue (e.g., disease, injury, health condition). The following information will need to be included in your poster:
Provide an introduction to the public health issue.
Identify the incidence and prevalence of the public health issue comparing the national, state and local level rates.
Include rates among specific age, race or gender groups.
Include main risk factors or determinants for the public health issue.
Present research information regarding primary, secondary and tertiary prevention strategies and treatment.
Identify the latest trends and technologies in the treatment of the issue.
Draw an educated conclusion regarding the future status of the issue.
Provide 13 solutions in decreasing the incidence and prevalence rates of the public health issue (clinical applicability).

Part II: Research Study Design Paper (50 points)
Using the information from part I of this project, design a research study using epidemiological techniques to further investigate your chosen current, immediate, and/or emerging public health issue. The following information must be included in your paper:
State a research question related to your public health issue.
Choose a study design that could be used to answer that question with an explanation of why that design was picked.
Describe your design following the scientific methods delineated in your textbook regarding the epidemiological study design you have chosen.

Grading RubricUnderstanding Topic, Clearly Written, Utilized Research, Compiled Information.
Discussed topic in detail and used at least five valid references. Poster and paper reflected correct usage of APA format. Writing demonstrated clarity and accuracy. Proposed a feasible research design addressing the problem by synthesis of information and application of critical thinking. Provided 3 solutions in decreasing the incidence and prevalence rates of the public health issue (clinical applicability). Length of the poster and body of the paper adequate to cover the topic.
