The Tet Offensive (January 1968) was a major military campaign launched by North Vietnam and the Viet Cong during the Vietnam War, aimed at surprising South Vietnamese and U.S. forces during the Tet holiday. Despite being a military failure for the communists—who were pushed back from most cities—it had significant psychological and political impacts. 

The offensive exposed vulnerabilities in U.S. and South Vietnamese control, especially in urban areas. Although the U.S. regained control, the intense media coverage of the offensive, particularly by CBS’s Walter Cronkite, shattered American confidence and turned public opinion against the war.
