Hide Assignment InformationInstructions📝 In-Class Assignment Instructions Objective: This assignment is designed to help you reflect on the relationship between culture, biology, and norms, as well as the concept of cultural appropriation. You’ll have the opportunity to voice your thoughts during class discussion if you feel comfortable, and submit your written responses via Brightspace. Assignment Questions: 

Morning Routine Reflection:

• Describe your routine for getting ready in the morning.
• Which aspects of this routine are governed by biology (e.g., sleeping, eating, hygiene)?
• Which aspects are influenced by culture (e.g., choice of clothing, grooming habits, timing)?
• What norms and values shape these practices?

Cultural Appropriation Reflection:

• Under what circumstances is it appropriate for a person in one culture to adopt elements from another culture (such as dress, food, or speech)?
• Do you consider this cultural appropriation? Why or why not?

How to Complete: 

1. Reflect and write thoughtful responses to both questions.
2. Class Discussion: You’ll have a chance to share your ideas aloud if you feel comfortable—no pressure!
3. Submit your written responses to Brightspace by the end of class.
   • Submissions made by the end of class today will not incur any point deductions.
   • Due date: March 20.
   • After the due date, 5% will be deducted for each day the assignment is late.
   • The assignment will close on March 23. No submissions accepted after this date.

Submission Instructions: 

• Format: Short paragraph answers for each question (about 5-8 sentences each is fine!).
• Where: Submit via Brightspace under the designated assignment folder.

Late Submission Policy 

• Deadline: Today by end of class (no deduction). 
• Late penalty: 5% per day late, starting March 21. Last day to submit: March 23.
• Any assignments submitted after this time will not be accepted.

Sharing your ideas in class can help spark meaningful discussion—but written submission is still required, even if you share aloud.

Grading Rubric (100 points total) Criteria Points Description Clarity & Completeness of Responses 50 pts Student clearly answers both questions, addressing all parts of each prompt thoughtfully and completely. Connection to the Reading 50 pts Student references relevant concepts, terms, or examples from Chapter 03 to support their answers, showing clear understanding of how course material applies.
