For this task you will provide specific evidence that you are using from the additional sources AND your textbook to create your own analysis.

Citations/references use your major degree’s style. See the link for your major’s style:

African American Women Leaders between 1877 and 1940
Follow up Essay Instructions:
African American women are rarely recognized as leaders so we want to bring these women back into history and the content of your current unit of study. Of course, we must define what a leader is. Select one leader to write on, but since there are so few, it is quite possible that some of you may choose the same person. The focus of this essay is the period from 1877 through World War II. You must use at least one source from the APUS library or the course bibliography. You may also search online, but if you do, you must use credible sources only (Wikipedia, About.com, blogs etc are not credible sources, for example). The following links can help you determine which sources are credible or non-credible during your research: Credible vs non-credible sources, Getting Started With Research, Why I Shouldn’t Use Wikipedia and Identifying your Resources.
AND THEN…use the individuals, themes and direct content from our textbook to reinforce the world of your intended “leader.” Use the textbook to set the stage for the accomplishments and challenges of the individual that you select. Find specific quotes, statistics or unique passages (and specify the page where you found that information) that reinforce your own analysis of your sources to tell a more historically significant summary. While it is important to state “what” someone did…this will enable you to stress “how” it was relevant to the era.
Remember that this is a formal essay so your essay will need to include an introduction paragraph (with a thesis statement), body paragraph(s), and the conclusion paragraph. You are required to respond to at least two of your peers. You must use at least one academic source in addition to your textbook. Because students must respond, please post your essay as soon as possible.
Please do NOT just attach your document, make sure that others can see your content within the Discussion area. If you want to attach a duplicate document that is fine but the most important aspect is posting this for all to see. Some students may not be able to open these attachments and it does slow down the process with another step, so make sure that your essay is posted within the public area.
