Multiple Baselines Design

As a reseacher one can select multiple baselines design for a hypothetical research study on self-injurious behavior. This design is used to determine the effectiveness of an intervention by comparing the changes in the targeted behavior across multiple individuals, behaviors, or settings before and after the intervention is introduced (Kazdin, 2018). To implement this design in my study, I would first select several individuals who engage in self-injurious behavior and establish baseline measures of this behavior across different settings or behaviors. Next, I would introduce the intervention and continue to collect data on the targeted behavior. By comparing the changes in the behavior across the different individuals, behaviors, or settings, I can determine the effectiveness of the intervention in reducing self-injurious behavior. One advantage of the multiple baselines design is that it allows for the determination of the specific effects of the intervention on the targeted behavior, as opposed to other factors that may influence the behavior (Kazdin, 2018).
