The National Association for Sport and Physical Education last revised its recommendations for physical education in 2004. There were numerous groups participating in physical education at the time (Kelly, 2019). The American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation & Dance was a confederation of five organizations. Five fundamental anchor standards form the foundation of the national SHAPE America standards. These anchor standards show what a person who is physically literate is capable of doing and are valid for every grade level.
