39293Compose your proposal/Self-Check your paper for plagiarism.
Select a research topic from the list below or one relevant to your profession/interest. For instance, you can consider evaluating a program or intervention relevant to your profession/job. Please note that “research” in this class is not just referring to searching what we already know (the literature review component), but conducting new, original research. Further, a research topic is not yet your research question. During your literature review process, you will identify a gap in what we know (the research gap) and then identify a research question. Potential research topics include:
Pandemics or chronic illness and mental health
Vaccinations – challenges and benefits
Bioethics of genetic diseases
Obesity and social connections/influence
Sugar addiction
Cancer clusters

Connections between socioeconomic Status/social drivers of Health and general health outcomes
Anxiety disorders and behavioral vs. medical treatments
Clinical trial research in humans and animals
Health implications of sitting for extended periods of time
Gender and Psychological Reaction to Specific Noise
Gender and Singer Preference
Gum Chewing and Concentration on Simple Cognitive Tasks
Influence of Positive and Negative Ads
Reaction to Violated Social Norms
Social Networking and “real life” interaction
Learning and Color Experiment
Information and Short-term Memory
Personality and Musical Preference
Gender and Short-term Memory

Review at least six scholarly articles related to your potential research topic. Include a list of the six research articles reviewed in APA format for your submission.
Select one of the scholarly works you reviewed and write an annotated bibliography for that article that informs the critical points of the potential research topic. Summarize the literature by addressing the following.
Author information – Who is the author? What is her/his background? Is the author qualified to write this document?
Author’s purpose – What is the author’s purpose in writing this literature or doing this research?
Author bias – Does the author show any biases or make assumptions upon which the rationale of the literature rests? If so, what are they?
Methodology – What methods did the author use to obtain the data? Be sure to provide strong details about their methodology, including participants, data collection methods, and analysis approach.
Author conclusion – What conclusions does the author draw? Are these conclusions expressly stated or implied?
Assessment of those conclusions – Are the conclusions justified from the research or experience? Are the conclusions in sync with the original purpose of the research and supported by the data? Are the conclusions skewed by bias?
Assessment of the literature’s quality and relevancy to the potential research topic – Is the work current? ○ Does it conflict with conventional wisdom, established scholarship, government policy, etc.? How is the literature relevant to the potential research topic? Explain.
NOTE: Avoid all first-person references (e.g., I, we, us) and personal beliefs throughout the paper. Provide an assessment of the articles and their relevance based on evidence.

Self-Check your paper for plagiarism.
Submit your paper to the draft plagiarism self-check. Please read How You Can Avoid Plagiarism (open in a new window) to understand and review the similarity report. Some tips:
Do not pay much attention to the percentage. A low percentage is not safe, and a high percentage does not mean a problem. Plagiarism can occur with 1%, and no plagiarism could be present with over 50%.
Just because something is flagged does not mean it is plagiarism. For instance, Ouriginal will often flag title pages and full references pages as similar or identical to others. If multiple people refer to the same source, then yes, the references should be identical, but that is not plagiarism. Additionally, a direct quote, properly cited, may be flagged, but also is not plagiarism.
Similarly, a draft self-check may miss plagiarism. YOU are ultimately responsible for anything you submit. This self-check is a way to help you identify problems.
Pro tip: Never copy text into your paper. Put ideas in your own words right away without looking at the original source. If you really need/want to copy original text over, highlight it immediately so you can easily identify it and either quote it or paraphrase (and cite) it before submitting.
Wait for your draft paper to process and download your similarity report. It may take a few minutes for the paper to process.
