What is Strategic Planning?
Strategic planning is the process of defining an organization’s direction and making decisions on allocating its resources to pursue this direction. It involves setting goals, analyzing the competitive environment, and identifying external and internal factors that may affect the organization (Prange & Hennig, 2019). The process of strategic planning helps organizations to clarify their vision and mission, set long-term goals, and develop a plan to achieve those goals. Strategic planning is important for organizations because it helps them to be proactive rather than reactive in their decision-making. By looking ahead and anticipating potential challenges and opportunities, organizations can position themselves to be more successful in the future. Strategic planning also helps organizations to allocate resources effectively and efficiently, as it allows them to focus on the most important priorities and allocate resources accordingly (Bryson et al., 2018). There are several steps involved in the strategic planning process, including setting the vision and mission, conducting a SWOT analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats), setting goals and objectives, developing strategies and action plans, and implementing and monitoring the plan.
